"The Mayor of Fujinomiya City attends a Shizen tasting with the Fujisan Winery"
The mayor of Fujinomiya city, Mr. Sudo visited us for a tasting of our wines in April 2013. We were excited about his enthusiasm for Shizen wines, the Fujisan winery, and his plans for incorporating our activities into his vision for expanding the region’s economy over the next few years.
Elected to office in 2011, Mayor Sudo told us that he would be proud if his region could produce a world-class wine for export around the world, and that we would enjoy his support in our ongoing efforts to expand the production and distribution of Domaine Shizen wines. Mayor Sudo also commented that he would like to see many more vineyards like ours decorating the landscape around Mt. Fuji, as increasing the number of viable, value-added agricultural products is a critical issue for many of his constituents.
The tasting started at the Fujisan winery where the mayor enjoyed Domaine Shizen 2012 straight from the tank. We then moved to the “Food Park”, a newly developed restaurant and market area near the winery, where we had lunch and conducted a tasting of our Shizen 2011 wine. The Food Park was developed with the help of Mr. Sudo and the Fujinomiya government, and features many products grown in the surrounding farms including tea, milk and sake. After such a productive and positive meeting, our excitement at being a part of Fujinomiya’s growing community and economy was reaffirmed.
